Peter Goldsworthy - Principal
'Goldy' has been sailing since he took his first steps, born on a boat he has sailed just about everything from a 6 to a 126 footer and on most waters around the globe.

With 37,000 offshore miles chalked up, Goldy has competed internationally in regattas and ocean races, as well as the charter game in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

Being a very competitive sailor he found Sydney the best place to reside. Andy snared him into the Getaway Team and he's loved it ever since.

Polly Thomas - Sailing & Education Manager

Phil 'Bear' Thompson - Instructor
  'Ocean sailing is my passion’

Bear claims he was a late starter to the sport, but what hasn’t this man achieved!

With over 100,000 n.miles sailed, 18 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races and numerous other International Yacht Races and years of Sailing Race Management, Marina and Slipway Management, Bear has extensive knowledge, experience and qualifications .

Bear holds an Event Management Certificate from UTS and has qualifications as a Yachtmaster Instructor, Radio Operators Instructor/Examiner, National Race Officer; and in National Coaching specialising in Sailing and Coaching the Disabled Athlete.

Getaway Sailing is fortunate to have Bear on board, and brings with him a level of professionalism and knowledge that he is keen to pass on. Bear is the Instructor for the Sea Safety and Survival and Radio Operators courses and he also works in marine chandlery.

Paul Ley - Instructor

Sam Price - Instructor
Forever smiling, an infectious laugh, a sweet tooth and no concept of fear! Sammy is the man that stays calm when a crisis hits.

Sammy started sailing when he was 10 and is a sail maker by trade. This way he can combine work and his love of sailing. Sammy left New Zealand a few of years ago to come here for the sailing and now calls Sydney home.

Sammy is a valued member of the Getaway team, with over 16,000 offshore miles logged, he loves to compete in major regattas and offshore races. And is pretty handy at catching fish on deliveries!

Most memorable race to date is the 2007 Sydney to Southport.

Just smile and wave boys, just smile and wave…………..

Peter 'Bucko' Buckley
His nickname might not be original but Bucko certainly is!

Bucko started sailing at 8 and has certainly covered a lot ground, as he has sailed everything from dinghies to Volvo 60’s.

Bucko has over 60,000 offshore miles a combination of racing and deliveries. Bucko was part of the crew that did the delivery of Getaways Volvo 60. Bucko was on the leg from Norway – Belgium and then from New Zealand to Sydney.

Bucko likes to laugh but he claims not as much as Sammy – but to those who know him could disagree with that! Bucko loves sailing, he enjoys the sport and the people and is always there to lend a hand, share a joke or a few beers!!!

Wants.... more overseas sailing, more classic timber boat sailing .... and down wind deliveries!!!!

Favorite yacht race ..... the next one!
