This 414nm race is one of only two Cat 1 Ocean Races, in Australia. Come race with us on our Volvo 60, as we reach across the Tasman Sea to the untouched tropical paradise of Lord Howe Island. This race is a small fleet of only 22 boats since space is limited due to anchoring in the lagoon. Lord Howe Island is a heritage listed and is a protected nature reserve. It's a great place to stop over for a couple of days and fly back on one of the dodgy charter planes or sail back with us if you have not had enough fun. We sail along the Tasmanian coastline from Hobart to Sydney after New Years Eve, not a bad way to welcome in the New Year! Depending on weather, the typical stop offs are at Port Arthur, Wineglass Bay and Eden as we make our way back to Sydney. This sail is one of our favourites and passes some of Australia's most stunning landscapes during the 640 nautical mile passage. It's a great way to build miles too! The yacht leaves Hobart on 2nd January 2010 and expects to arrive back in Sydney on the 8th. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice navigation, sail trim and helming. We will be competing this year in one of our Sydney 38's. It will be a great fleet with over 17 other 38's in a fleet of over 150 boats. The race huges the east coast as we sail fast up through the many head lands and bays trying to keep out of the fast flowing northerly current. The race starts at 1200hrs on the 2nd of Janurary 2010. The race is aprox 260 N Miles and will take between 2 and 3 days to complete. Join us on the return and get 20 % off the price. The cost includes race entry fees, food, instruction and boat hire.
