Winter Series 2006 Diary
1st Race of the series
Not a bad start to the winter series with a second over the line and second on handicap. It was the first race with this crew and they showed true motivation and enthusiasm to pull off this weeks result. We are all looking forward to the coming season !

2nd Race - First gun of the season !
This week was another light day with 5-10 knots of breeze. The trimmers were kept busy with constant tweaks being made to the sails to keep the boat slipping along. It was hard to keep the spinnaker flying today but the crew persevered to take line honours ..Congrats team !

3rd Race - 2nd Gun !
The third race of the season was a mixed bag of conditions. We started in a building breeze with and t-shirts and shorts and enjoying leading the fleet around the course. Later in the afternoon , the breeze dropped right off and we were pressing hard to keep the boat moving , then suddenly the grey clouds rolled and the rain started. All the wet weather gear was out for our last leg to the finish. All in all a good day for the crew as they received their second line honours although we were severely punished on handicap.

4th Race - Retirement
Last Saturday was another confusing day with rain and an inconsistent breeze. Soon after the start , we beat up the first leg to be pinned between the course mark and Shark Is. As a result of this tight squeeze , the YANDOO crew had an incident which forced them to pull out of the race. Stay tuned for the crews comeback next week !!

Double !! Both Line honours and Handicap wins
Congratulations to the Yandoo crew for taking the double last Saturday and what a wet and windy race it was ! We saw over 40 knots of breeze in different parts of the harbour so we decided to leave the spinnaker in it's bag and go for the poled-out heady.. It was a real test for the crew as most had never sailed in such strong conditions. Congrats team !

Abandoned Race
This race turned out to be a drifter ! We were leading the fleet and actually lapped a couple of our competitors when the breeze totally died leaving us to make or break.. After a vote , the crew decided it was off to the bar !

Combined Clubs Race
This week RANSA , SASC and RPAYC decided to combine their fleets for this SAT race. For the Yandoo crew , this meant more competition - it was game on ! We went out all guns blazing and managed third over the line.We had one shocker kite drop and as a result put us a minute behind the next competitor. Bring on the rest of the season !

Line Honours & Second on Handicap
Saturday's race was a perfect race with clear blue skies and good breeze around the course. From the first mark rounding , Team Getaway pulled away from the fleet with Toccata hot on our heels. With consistent crew work around the course , we were able to stretch our lead to comfortably take the gun by over 4 minutes from our nearest competitor. Thanks to Mike , Colin & Diana for joining us for race 8 !

Two Seconds !
A fluky day with consistent breeze one minute and nothing the next ! We hit the line with pace just behind Toccata . Over the first leg , both Toccata & Yandoo took turns at leading fleet until Toccata with their big white kite took off down the harbour. Through the race , the Yandoo crew made some tactical moves which lessened the gap between 1st & 2nd but unfortunately ; in the end Toccata nabbed the guy by a couple of minutes. Thanks to Claudia & Niki for joining us this week !

The double...AGAIN !
This race presented light winds and clear blue skies. The Yandoo team pushed hard to clear the fleet for the start and power ahead of their rivals. After the first rouding , Yandoo hoisted their largest spinnaker to pull away from the fleet. Their rivals were unable to claw the lead back and the Yandoo team won by a mile !!

First over the line !
Last Saturday was a breezy breezy day ! Goldy & Ben were teaching a SSSC course so were unable to join the crew for this full on race ! Johno said they went with a No. 4 for the race.

Second on line and handicap
Saturday was a typical winters day. A delayed start and light breeze throughout the day. We hoisted our huggeeee blue spinnaker and took off. Unfortunately , Toccata took off on the last beat to beat the Yandoo crew by 25 mins in the end.

Last race of the season !
The last Saturday race of the season was another light and fluky one . The race started in a 8kn NW but soon died into nothing.. The Yandoo crew were left to float around Rose Bay for 40 mins until finishing in 5 knots of breeze - Goldy & I want to thank the winter series crew for a great season . See you all on the water soon !
