Getaway-Sailing.com takes the Triple in the Lord Howe Island Race
Getaway-Sailing.com’s time to stand as new record
The elapsed time of Getaway-Sailing.com in taking line honours in the Hempel 33rd Gosford to Lord Howe Island Yacht Race will be recognised as the race record for the new longer distance of 414 nautical miles. The Volvo 60, skippered by Peter Goldsworthy, reached Lord Howe Island after sailing the course in 34 hours 52 minutes 02 seconds, an average speed of 11.82 knots (with a top speed of 22.2 knots !!!!!. Gosford Sailing Club’s Race Director David Slingsby said "this would stand as a new race record...". The Volvo 60’s time would have been faster but for a calm patch about 120 nautical miles for the island yesterday. “The clouds sucked out all the wind and we were going round in circles for a while,” crewman Scotty Jug said on Lord Howe Island this morning.
Getaway-Sailing.com’s performance is underlined by the fact that the second boat to finish Merlin, David Forbes and Richard Brooks’ Kaiko 51, did not cross the finish line off Lord Howe Island’s coral lagoon until 12:52:40 this afternoon, more than 13 hours after the Volvo 60.

Hi Folks,
Wow!!! How often would this happen??? People will sail a lifetime without experiencing “one” of these achievements. I’m part of a team that has all three!!! That’s F@&$ing amazing.(send the shirts back for more embroidery).
I would like to mention & thank a few people! It might be bit long winded, but not a long as Cam’s pirate jokes! Frenchy – For you wit! And at each watch change, your spirits regardless of the time. “Good Morning” Seal Clubber – for not throwing up when I took you to the dunny – hope you back on your feet! Bucko – For sharing so much knowledge & your bottomless bag of jokes – crack me up! Campbell – Again for sharing your knowledge, your positive attitude & your cooking. (notice I didn’t mention jokes) Robyn – What would you be thinking now? If you didn’t do it! Well done! Sammie - F@&k – you can steer!! And you laugh a lot Bruce – For your efforts & being a team player Steve - Allways good for a chat! Finally – “Gold Dog” – F@#K you can snore!! - Your interaction with you key crew members, namely Bucko & Campbell was such a source of knowledge. It was great to see in many cases, various opinions on how things work or don’t work! Outside of our achievements & meeting such a great group of people the knowledge gained was a highlight for me. I have sailed with a few people who have half the knowledge you guys do & won’t share it! Mainly because there head is buried in their ass! It’s a credit to you & your team @ Getaway – Thank you for the opportunity!! Thanks for the experience Will keep in touch. Macca
