With about 20kts of breeze we started with the No.4, gybed arounded the first mark then went to put the kite up. Not going to happen!!! As we rounded, the breeze had shifted.
Half way down to the second mark,after having to come higher to get a better angle, we hear Goldy calling to HOIST THE COLOURS!!!!
The crew on the bow were quick in their response, and the colours were flying and we were away. We were second around the mark and gaining on the leading boat Kaz.
After a fast kite run up the harbour we rounded the third mark and started to head back down the habour after a quick headsail change we had the pace back to the gate after passing the leading boat so now finally in first place!
The rest of the race was straight forward no major stuff ups and we are home and hosed. As we crossed the finish line there was excitement in all of us finally we had won. Now back to the bar for a few jugs of rum.
The only negative of the day was, Rob taking a nasty fall from the main and cracking his elbow.
Congratulations to Goldy and the crew for a great effort and the hard work that got them over the line.
There is only one saying on the volvo which is GO HARD or GO HOME!!!!!
