Wow, What a day. A drifter to begin with saw the start delayed by half an hour or so (for the first time ever), giving time for a relax, a chat and a quite pre-race beer. But not to speak so soon, start the engine and bugger !!! we managed to get a sheet wrapped around the prop.
So over the side for Ben, man of the day, to cut the tail off the sheet. Then it was all on, headsail up, change to the code zero, 5 tacks with the big mutha, change to the headsail, peel to the reacher, Change to the kite, change to the headsail, change to the code zero. And that was all in a shortened course with half a dozen sail changes started but aborted due to very very variable wind conditions.
It was Flinder's first day out of the Volvo 60,he had a great time exploring the boat, pawing his way around the ropes, and taking in all the action.

Congratulations to Goldy and the crew!
Getaway Sailing’s Volvo 60 Getaway-Sailing.com, skippered by Peter ‘Goldy’ Goldsworthy has taken line honours in the Hempel 34th Gosford to Lord Howe Island ocean race.
Getaway-Sailing.com crossed the line at 14:44:36 this afternoon (race time) for an elapsed time of 49 hours 44 minutes 36 seconds – just over 14 hours and 42 minutes outside her time in last year’s race.
In 2006, Getaway-sailing.com VO60 took the triple in the Hempel 33rd Gosford to Lord Howe Island. With that declaring a new race record of – 34 hours 52 minutes 02 seconds – for the longer 414nm course across the Tasman Sea.
Well done boys and no doubt you will enjoy the celebrations.

Getaway-Sailing has entered Australian offshore sailing history as the first to take line honours in this race.

A scheme designed for those interested in racing sailing yachts, trailable yachts or one-design keelboats.
The National Racing Scheme has several levels, ranging from teaching the basic racing skills to those with little experience who are looking to crew on a racing yacht, through to those wishing to become racing skippers on an offshore yacht.

Getaway-Sailing.com finished a credible 13th, just like their Sydney-Hobart placing last year.
After a tough southerly blew up the New South Wales coast and hitting the 45 boat fleet, many retirements were seen with wild broaches and steering failures.
Through solid preparation Getaway Sailings V060 persevered through the hair raising weather and exciting ride north to record some impressive speeds over 25 knots boat speed!

Join us this winter as we will be entering our Sydney 38's in the RANSA Winter Series.
The action starts every Saturday from May through to July at 11:45am hrs at the dock. The gun for Division One sounds at 13:00 hrs when we will be competing against the biggest and the best boats on Sydney Harbour.
Buy a pass for the season or book an individual race. You must of, completed the Spinnaker course before competing in this Winter Series. If you have not yet completed this course, call the office on (02) 9181 1911 and we can organise a deal for you to complete the course and race in the Winter Series

The Volvo 60, Getaway-Sailing.com has taken line honours, PHS win and new course race record in the Hempel 33rd Gosford to Lord Howe Island Race. Blitzing the race comfortably ahead of any of its nearest rivals by 13 hours. Skippered by Getaway Sailing Director, Peter Goldsworthy, the Volvo 60 having set an elapsed time of 34hours 52 minutes and 02 seconds. The crew made up of Getaway Sailing offshore thrill seekers and experienced yacht racers had to endure tough gale force winds for the first 24 hours and smashed the field to take line honours in style.

Getaway is entering our race winning Sydney 38's in both the CYCA Mount Gay Monday night spinnaker twilight races and the RANSA Friday night twilights.
The CYCA series is for club racers keen to improve their spinnaker handling skills and mix it up with some of Sydney's best Sydney 38 crews, whilst the RANSA friday series is more for the social sailor wanting to end the week on a high with a race up the harbour, meet like minded people and join the fun at the BBQ and watch awesome sun sets.

The two big black hulled boats fought all the way to the finish line at the conclusion of the 2006 Hahn Premium Hamilton Island Race Week in the Performance Handicap
division.
Geoff Lavis’ UBS Wild Thing and Sandy Anderson’s Getaway-sailing.com enjoyed a friendly rivalry all week in the predominantly light and sunny conditions.
The Volvo 60 excels in the stronger conditions but suffers in the light and variable windward-leeward courses. However the crew on the Volvo performed admirably and will take back some great memories from a superb week in the stunning Whitsunday islands.

As a result Getaway Sailing have organised refresher courses which take place in one day and is a lot less expensive than having to re-sit the whole course which is what happens if yours expires!

Congrats to the crew sailing YANDOO the Sydney 38 representing Getaway Sailing in the RANSA and CYCA winter series. The team achieved 7 bullets in 10 races of the RANSA series and a podium place with 3rd overall in the Sydney 38's in the CYCA series. Once again Getaway Sailing have chartered a Generation Three Volvo 60, for this huge regatta in the Whitsundays. Over 204 boats fronted up last year for some of the best sailing we have experienced. See the images of the team and hear the stories from Reg, Andy and James on the VO60! We finised up with a 4th over all after 9 days of sailing and a top boat speed of over 20.4. After 2 races at the 2006 Hahn Premium Hamilton Island Race Week, Getaway Sailing, the generation 3 Volvo 60 chartered by Doug McCarthy and Sandy Anderson and their crew from Perth, lead the overall points series in the PHS division.
An impressive 4th place in race 1, the South Molle/Daydream Island race was followed by a win in race 2, the Club Marine Edward Island Race. Monday is a layday allowing crews to make repairs, tune rigs and get some relaxion in before the next race on Tuesday.

We are very proud to say that Getaway's Gerard McCord (Puppa G) and Peter Goldsworthy (Goldog) made it for the Fastnet Race in the UK this July. These Getaway Sailing Legends all teamed up with METABARRON the IMX40 when sailing in this years Hobart Race on DHL-Getaway the VO60. Owner and Skipper Sean "thirsty " Hurst, crew man Fitzy and Alan Platt all made it for the reunion for this great race. Another great Getaway Sailing association. Read more and see images!!

If you missed out on the last year when we ran the Vo 60 down the coast after race week, join us again this year. Its a great trip through the Whitsunday Islands and down the east cost. Let's hope we get to see the dolphins and whales again, after the show they put on last time!! Months and in some cases, years of planning, for the big race and 40 knot sustained head winds saw over 50% of the fleet,some 124 boats, retire. Three out of five Getaway Chartered boats made the right of passage accross the Bass Straight but 2 boats decided they would retire with sick, cold and wet crew , caution taking the better side of valour. Read all about the crews and results. Congratulations to DHL VO60 crew, Fine Line USA and Team LEXAR. Sorry to the Obsession and Fiu crew that retired, now you have to come back next year and try again!

This year we provided the VO60 , Seriously 10 to Pro Management Group, a fast growing but established property development group. We hosted 29 guests on board the boat for the day. After just an hours training, it was time to race!! in a fleet of over 125 boats.....It was a perfect day and we would like to say a special thanks to Pro Management and its team for their generous contribution to the foundation and for a great day on the water....Images attached.

Getaway is proud to announce it trained the crew in Sea Safety Survival, Marine First Aid, Para Aid, De Frib as well as Radio courses in November...." Jakki Moores, the only female skipper to finish this years Sydney to Hobart Yacht race, was jubilent with her teams finish. With 70% of the fleet retiring due to huge head winds and seas, they battled on and pulled off a 4th out of 13 Sydney 38's. This is Jakki's 3rd trip south in three years.This was indeed a special race with boyfriend and watch captain Henery popping the question at completion of the race......

Once again Getaway is entering the classic Sydney-Mooloolaba race. The race is referred to as a 'rock hopping' race as the fleet usually hugs the coastline over the 469 nautical miles to avoid the often strong running offshore southerly currents and to take advantage of the day sea breezes and night land breezes that dominate at this time of year. In a fresh north easterly breeze, on a cloudless blue sky Saturday, the Getaway Sailing Crew headed off 060 degrees to Lord Howe Island in the GSC Cat one race. A fantastic start saw them pull ahead of the fleet...see the start images and meet the team.....who pulled off a 4th overall and a 1st in the team trophies representing CYCA.....

Getaway's skipper Andy sailed the new Super Maxi Alfa Romeo ( Team Shockwave ) from Sydney to Auckland in New Zealand in a strong southerly in a stunning time. Top boat speed logged in at 32.7 Knots, averaging over 400 Miles a day to make it one quick trip. Check the images and meet the crew of this newly launched super maxi just launched in July.
